  • Child & Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric Care

    For 8-17 year olds

    Entrusting anyone with the care of a child or adolescent is often a leap of faith; however, during inpatient care at HealthSource Saginaw’s Behavioral Medicine Center, children and young people ages 8-17 years old have access to a team of health professionals who truly care and help:

    • Stabilize the crisis that led to hospitalization
    • Develop a treatment plan
    • Coordinate care in a supportive environment


    Treatment includes:

    • 24-hour behavioral health monitoring and supervision
    • Behavioral health diagnostic evaluation
    • Medication stabilization and management
    • Group therapy
    • Recreational therapy
    • Patient education
    • Discharge and follow-up care planning

    Our goal is to help each patient continue with their progress made at HealthSource. Together, the patient, family, and treatment team develop an appropriate aftercare plan that may include:

    Professionals, family members, or friends may refer a patient. Our intake advisors are available 24/7 to take your calls and answer your questions. We encourage a phone screen prior to arrival. Our intake advisors will consult with one of our staff psychiatrists; the final decision to admit is made by the psychiatrist.

    Patients with Medicaid or without insurance must be assessed by the community mental health authority of their residential county prior to admission.

  • Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatric Care

    For adults 60 and older

    The Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatric care at HealthSource Saginaw’s Behavioral Medicine Center treats adults 60 and over with an acute psychiatric disorder and that may have an underlying medical concern.  Care is co-managed by a psychiatrist and an internal medicine physician and patients have access to a team of health professionals around the clock to help:

    • Stabilize the crisis that led to hospitalization
    • Provide a thorough evaluation
    • Develop a treatment plan
    • Coordinate care in a supportive environment

     


    Treatment includes:

    • Behavioral health diagnostic evaluation
    • 24-hour behavioral health monitoring and supervision
    • Medication stabilization and management
    • Occupational Therapy
    • Physical Therapy
    • Group Therapy
    • Specialized groups based on age and cognitive level of functioning for reminiscence
    • Recreational Therapy
    • Discharge and follow-up care planning

  • Adult Inpatient Chemical Dependency Treatment

    For adults 18 years of age and older

    Adults 18 years of age and older who are in need of immediate assistance for detoxification treatment have a valuable resource in HealthSource Saginaw’s Chemical Dependency Center, utilizing a comprehensive interdisciplinary team approach to address chemical dependency and mental health needs to promote stabilization.

    We utilize a combination of processes to assist patients in becoming substance abuse free, including elements of the 12-step program. We emphasize individual goal setting and cognitive restructuring to build each person’s self-confidence and self-esteem.

    • Evaluation and treatment for co-occurring disorders in coordination with the psychiatric care in our Behavioral Medicine Center

    • Medically monitored sub-acute detoxification with 24-hour medical supervision

What to Bring

Safety is our primary consideration when determining allowable items in our Behavioral Medicine Center.

When you arrive, your personal belongings will be checked in by a mental health technician. You will be allowed to keep your clothing in your room.

  • Bring 3-4 changes of clothing
  • Laundry facilities are available for patient use
  • Hats are not to be worn in the building, including bandanas
  • Socks must be worn
  • Shoes cannot have shoelaces due to safety
  • Shorts are to be at least fingertip length
  • Appropriate undergarments must be worn
  • Pajamas must be worn at bedtime
  • Pants must be able to stay up without use of a belt
  • Shirts must be long enough that they cover the midriff when arms are raised
  • Showers are to be taken daily, either in the morning or evening but not during group time or other activities

The following items are NOT allowed:

  • Personal media devices and cell phones
  • Jewelry of any kind, including piercings
  • Boots or high-heeled shoes
  • Tank tops, cut-off clothing, revealing clothing or sunglasses
  • Any product containing alcohol (mouthwash, astringent, etc.)
  • Glass mirrors or containers of any kind
  • Nail clippers, emory boards
  • Electrical appliances, radios, CD players, curling irons, hair dryers
  • Nail polish/remover
  • Perfume/cologne
  • Aerosols
  • Chewing gum/candy
  • Food/drink
  • Matches, lighters, cigarettes, tobacco products, caffeine
  • Sharp items or anything that could be a potential weapon
  • Dental floss
